Engine downsizing and moving toward high gearing are effective measures in reducing CO2 and in improving the fuel economy. However, issues of insufficient driving power and auxiliary braking force still remain.
Engine assist systems, evolving from TBK’s retarder technology, improve the auxiliary braking force by recovering energy during deceleration. Engine assist systems also contribute to fuel economy, startability, and acceleration by assisting with the driving power while the vehicle is in motion.
